Goal: You will be shown pairs of images depicting a living room containing a lamp with a visible lightbulb on a table.

Your task is to select the image in which the lightbulb emits more light. For example, in this photo, the lightbulb on the left emits more light. In other words, the light bulb on the left has a higher wattage.

Brightness Examples

Procedure: You will begin with four practice trials to get familiar with the task.

  1. In each trial, two images will appear side by side on the screen.
  2. Choose the image where the lightbulb is brighter, meaning it appears as emitting more light. Question: Which lightbulb emits more light?
  3. Use the left or right arrow keys on the keyboard to indicate your choice (right or left image), and press the space key to confirm.
  4. After each selection, a noisy image will briefly appear before the next pair is shown.
  5. Repeat steps 2–4 until all trials are completed. The number of remaining trials will be displayed on the screen.
